This is a Tor middle relay running on the open sourced Debian GNU/Linux operating system on standard x86 hardware. This is one of the ways I give back to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and support their work with the Tor team to protect our personal freedoms and privacy. Additionally, it's a prime example of what *outdated* hardware can be used for. (reduce, reuse, recycle)
"Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security known as traffic analysis. Tor was originally designed, implemented, and deployed as a third-generation onion routing project of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. It was originally developed with the U.S. Navy in mind, for the primary purpose of protecting government communications. Today, it is used every day for a wide variety of purposes by normal people, the military, journalists, law enforcement officers, activists, and many others." [Learn more]
